NWTF Sport Show - Day #1 - Kendell Keeton Calls Up A NWTF Trophy
(Feb 20) Day #1 After a breakfast at Mickey D's we went to the Media Room and picked up our show badges. Our first stop was Tim Hooey's seminar on "Bowhunting Wild Turkey." Tim did a good job, he was very informative and his slide show and video segments were an asset to his presentation. Tim covered equipment, heavy poundage is not necessary. Boadheads: he recommends expandables. He likes blinds but he has taken lots of gobblers without them. Shot placement: a good way to locate the vitals is to look at the turkey's legs and move up into the body. Tim prefers to hunt gobbler strut zones rather than close to roosts. Decoys are helpful but gobblers can be taken without them. He prefers carbon arrows, they fly flatter and you get more yardage on your first pin. ![]()
Next we went to the Wildlife
Art Competition area. The art is outstanding, it includes paintings, sculpture,
carvings and other types of art.
Another swell exhibit is
the Taxidermy Competition for Wild Turkey. This is definitely first class
and all of the mounts are exceptional. To
the Wild Turkey Taxidermy.
Kindell Keeton - If
you've seen our coverage of this show in past years you've seen pics of
my bud Kindell Keeton. Today Kindell (age 17) competed in the Intermediate
calling championships and placed 5th.
We have additional pics from today's Intermediate Calling Competition. Plus Fred Lutger began his interviews this afternoon and talked to top call carver Dave Constantine and Mike Pentecost from Woodhaven Calls. And we attended the Knight & Hale seminar on the 5 Wild Turkey Transitions in the Spring. I'll get it up asap. Once the show was over we
went across the street and ate dinner at my favorite Columbus restaurant
Barley's.
The NWTF Sport Show - Set Up Day
The NWTF Sport Show - Travel Day (Feb 18) My truck was rolling smooth and running cool all day long, dawn to dusk ... and another 4 hours. Right now it's motel time in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Tomorrow afternoon the Duck and I will be at the Columbus airport to pick up Rich Walton and Fred Lutger. Then we will check in at the show and get our press passes. Look for pics, and news from the shows and its events right here. | Home Page | 1st Day | 2nd Day | 3rd Day | |
