We're gonna do it again. This year's hunt had a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, with exceptional hunt success and 2005 will be the same. The Duck will cook. Billy Don & Bill Carpenter will take you to your stand and help with your game. It will be a for sure good one ... the only way it could be better is if you were there too.
Dates: October 8 - 16. Come any number of days for $175 a day (includes meals, wild hogs and a turkey) and if you take a buck there is a additional fee of $550.
We are limited to how many hunters we can have so if you want more information, or to sign up, contact Billy Don right away at bdvanc@aol.com.

Roy Keefer
Roy had videoed several big bucks on the first 3 days of his hunt.
But this morning was his last hunt and he was definitely in the hunting mode today when a long tined 10-point came in bow range. To Roy's Hunt...
Brooks Johnson
Brooks returned to his Double Bull blind on the Pipeline an hour before light. Keith Beam was on video. At good enough light to video Brooks rattled briefly. Brooks sat the horns down and immediately Keith saw a buck 150 yards away. It came slowly and stopped 20 yards away. So far there was no chance for a shot. To Brook's Hunt...

Chef Klaus & The Black Hawaiian
When a group of rams walked under my treestand at #16 I told Chef Klaus (Mike Ditchler). After lunch we went looking for them. When we located them the Chef said, "I want the black one."
There was only one black ram in this group and things looked pretty easy until ... well, Here Is The Hunt...

DAY 8
Afternoon

The "Beamer" Mock Scrapes Up A Buck

Keith Beam
Keith and the Duck were at it again this afternoon. They moved the Double Bull blind to a new location and brushed it in. Then Keith made a mock scrape under a limb 20 yards away, using the MOON FIRE deer lure (from Wild Life Research). Keith hooked a Super Wick on a limb above the scrape. A couple of hours later it brought them a buck. To Keith's Hunt...

Morning
Keith Beam - The Duck and Keith set up on a live oak flat in the Lookout. They had no more than brushed the blind in and a bunch of does came in.  A buck came in and went to a doe and she cowed to him. Before Keith could get a shot the deer spooked off and 12 wild hogs came into the area.

A black and white boar looked good to Keith but a larger, black boar ran him off. The forth time that happened the Duck whispered, "Shoot the big black one!"

The Duck locked the video screen on the boar and Keith looked for a shot opportunity. When it was quartering away, front leg forward Keith released. The broadhead, arrow and Lumenock lighted nock zipped through the net window of the Double Bull blind and struck gold.

The boar disappeared into the bush. They waited an hour plus and checked for sign. It was a very easy blood trail and they found the boar 75 yards away.

Brooks Johnson & I spent the morning at View Point. I manned the video because Tony Dukes returned home last night. We saw several bucks, does and wild turkeys traveling on a trail 150 yards from us.

Chef Claus (Mike Ditchler) got a shot at a wild hog but missed.

I saw a bunch of rams in a strip of woods as the truck drove in. Mike and I are going to see if we can find them after breakfast.

DAY 7

Morning
John Askew returned to #23 West and saw several more bucks and does. A bomber 10-point skirted the area to look it over, and remained in the area 15 minutes, but he never came by John.

Rick Philippi saw 4 nice 8-point bucks but held out, hoping to see one of the bombers he has heard about. Brooks Johnson and Keith Beam saw deer but took no shots. Tony Dukes videoed for Brooks. Joe Hajek returned home this morning.

Mike Ditchler saw wild hogs, deer and some black bucks. His friend Chris got a shot at a wild hog but missed. Roy Keefer arrived last evening and he also saw deer and hogs this morning.

Afternoon
John Askew saw several deer but not the 10-point.

Rick Philippi saw does, bucks, rams and wild hogs at #16. At last light he noticed a black hog with a white markings walking through the trees behind the treestand. Rick just got a new bow from High Country that shot 330+ through a chronograph and the company sent him 55 grain broadheads for it. He wanted to see how they would do and the hog looked like a good test subject.

Rick aimed and released. The hog ran to the west and Rick heard a crash. When Billy Don arrived he, Rick, Keith Beam followed the generous blood trail 80 yards to the hog.

Although they saw game Keith Beam, Brooks Johnson did not take any shots. Mike Ditchler went out at 1:00 in the afternoon and sat until dark. He had a "monster buck" in his area between 2:00 and 2:30. There were no shot opportunities. Chris saw deer and rams, but not the wild hogs he came to hunt.

Roy Keefer saw a huge racked 10-point and videoed it. The big buck never came in bow range but Roy's video of it really wowed us back at camp that evening.

Rick and John had to return home and the rest of us ate the Duck's bear can grilled chickens. There was nothing left but the bones.

DAY 6 - The 2nd Group

Morning
Don Beckwith (the Duck): This was his 3rd trip to #21 West. Hogs came in right away. He wanted to shoot a large boar but it never got where he could get a clear shot. Afterward he saw deer but no shooing situations came up.

George Tague hunted wild turkeys and saw some out of shooting range. He took pictures of Texas Dall sheep.

Tony Dukes drove to Dallas and picked up Brooks Johnson and Keith Beam of Double Bull Archery.

Afternoon
Robert Hoague: I hunted my Double Bull blind at the Pipe LIne again and saw two 8-points, 2 does and a forky. No hogs. Here are the pictures I took.

Rick Philippi and John Askew. arrived mid afternoon. Rich hunted #16 and John went to #23 West. No mature bucks came through Rick's area.

John Askew saw several deer and a bunch of wild hogs. In this area the stand is inside the woods edge and overlooks a fairly open area. At 6:30 he saw a big 10-point a long ways away. But it was walking in John's general direction. Before long it was just close enough for a shot but the angle was wrong. But the buck only paused very briefly and walked several yards and stopped broadside. This was John's only chance and he took it. His arrow went low.

The buck trotted for 50 yards and then browsed around in different parts of the open area for half an hour.

George Tague saw more wild turkeys but didn't get in range.

More hunters came in tonight: Roy Keefer and Joe Hajek

The Duck out did him self by cooking chicken fried venison. Tyge Floyd dropped in to check on everyone and pitched in on the cooking and make perfect venison gravy. I had three helpings, it was real good. Just talking about it makes ma hungry enough to eat it again.

The Duck's Wild Hog Buck
There's more on the blood trail than the Duck!

The Duck saw "a whole slew pot of hogs." A large boar dropped its nose to the blood trail and sniffed his way along -- toward the deer. Other hogs noticed him and followed. The Duck climbed down and went after his buck. To The Hunt...
