Every hunting operation is
different. It's a mixture of the people who run the hunt, the guides, the
food, the individuals who are there to hunt, the kind of game the hunters
see, and what hapens when they hunt.
Rancho del Zorro is a solid,
unquestioned, "10" on a scale of "10". For starters, it definitely has
the game. There are lots of deer, half of them are bucks, and a bunch of
those bucks are mature, record book class trophys. (Even the "hardest
to please type" has gotta love that.)
| Chad and Angie Edwards are
the folks that run the place and they are "tops". I love these guys. They
work hard, know their stuff in the field and off, and really make you feel
at home. Heck, I felt right at home and wanted to move in and stay. (Don't
panic guys, I'm just kiddin'.)
Angie is a top notch cook,
every meal is exceptional. She serves a variety of good eats and when the
sun sets you find yourself wondering what's for dinner. She can run a bulldozer
too, and she doesn't miss when she takes aim at a deer or hog.
Their family, 3 young girls,
are totally cool kids who are interesting and fun. That's them in the "stairstep"
across the page, top to bottom, Ashley, Jessica and Briteny. (They are
arrowhead collectors and they have one of the best collections I've ever
seen.)

Chad knows South Texas and he
knows Whitetail deer. He knows this ranch well, too, and he goes all out
to help you have a good hunt. When I asked him to jot down information
about Rancho del Zorro so I could write it up for this page. He did and
emailed it to me. He said it better than I ever could. Here we go:
from Chad Edwards
"Welcome to South Texas
and Rancho del Zorro. I am Chad Edwards, manager of the ranch. I arrived
here in July of 2000 to start building what we hope will be the most unique
and exciting wildlife experience in the state of Texas. Rancho del Zorro
includes 8225 acres of native habitat in the Golden Triangle of South Texas.
The 32 species of woody plants and all of the native forbs that are located
here help to provide our deer herd with a high protein diet that has long
been known for growing Boone and Crockett class whitetail bucks."
"In addition to the native
diet, we supplement the deer with energy and protein feeds that will add
to the quality of our herd. Our surveys indicate that we have approximately
1 deer to 25 acres with a buck to doe ratio of 1buck per every 1.3 does."
"The ranch has not been hunted
in the last 7 years. This decision was made by the Rachel foundation, the
previous owners of the property."
"In addition to whitetail,
we also have large populations of Quail ( both bobwhite and blue), Dove,
Wild Hogs, Javalina, Coyotes, and Bobcats. We also have 13 tanks
on the ranch that provide trophy large mouth bass fishing."
"This fall we will have 25
bow and rifle blinds for our hunters. These blinds are located in high
traffic areas and are large enough to accommodate 2 people very comfortably.
Our lodge will sleep 20 people and we have a large dining area, lounge
area, showers, and other facilities to provide our guest with all the comforts
of home plus a little extra."
"My wife, Angie, and I will
be in charge of the daily hunting activities. There is additional information
on our web site at www.RanchoDelZorro.com.
Ior you can email us at
