| Setting Up The
Wild Bill Stand
Dennis
wanted to put a stand on a deer travel corridor where he found 3 big sheds
the last two years. One was a matched set that was 150 class and one antler
a 10 point that was its equal.
Dennis
took us to an area on a bench on the mountain top. It gets regular deer
traffic as we could tell from the prominent deer trails. From the stand
you have great visibility in every direction so it will be easy to keep
up with traffic in the entire area.
We
loaded a Traveling
Starr
ladder stand from NorthStarr
Treestands on Dennis's deer hearse 2-wheeler. When we got to the
bench Dennis asked me to select the tree for the stand to go in. Then we
unfolded the stand and put it in place on the tree.

This
ladder stand is different from any I've ever used, it attaches right against
the tree trunk rather than 2 or 3 feet out from the tree. Notice how the
seat comes out from the ladder. Dennis hooked his safety climbing belt
around the tree and fastened the 3 ratchets belts that hold the stand in
place. It attached rock solid, another big plus.

Since the platform and seat
are overhead as you climb up they fold up against the tree. Then there
is a fold down step to use to get on the platform.

Once in the stand Dennis
checked for shooting angles and the Duck trimmed a couple of branches as
per Dennis's instructions.

Because it attaches against
the tree's trunk the Traveling Starr is totally solid, something not all
ladder stands are. It went up quietly and quickly so we kept our impact
on the area to a minimum.
We named this particular
stand site Wild Bill. Named after wild Bill Goodwin, the inventor of NorthStarr
Treestands. |
